To All Parrot Lovers
I would like to share with you my own experiences in dealing with Parrots as pets as this would really help you a lot in taking care of your Pet Parrots.
My growing up years provided me with an opportunity to interact with all kinds of pets as my family owned a pet store. There were all kinds of pets including Cats, Dogs, Fishes, Monkeys, Birds and more. The birds really did not excite me at that time as I was really very young. My favorite pet at that time was a rabbit whom I had named Leo.
Three years ago I happened to come across a bird for sale. The bird owner wanted to sell the bird as he had two bull dogs and their barking really scared the bird. I purchased the bird from the owner although I knew nothing about birds in general. I started out with feeding and providing water to the bird and also ensured that the cage was kept clean at all times. At times it used to sit on my shoulders and I made sure that it had plenty of time outside the cage. Gradually I came to know that it was a male and named him Mike. I always used to keep the cage door open (except at night) to enable him to fly about as this helped him to feel at home and more close to it's natural surroundings. I got to love him dearly as he always flew to me when I was around and at times even used to accept food from my hand. The only problem was that I never really knew what kind of bird it was and hence it was difficult to take complete care of Mike. Then one day I discovered by chance that he was an Eclectus Parrot.
This information prompted me to do further study and research on parrots. I never knew that there was so much to learn about them. I came to know in due course that Parrots have their own Avian Vet's too....
I was sure that Mike was in perfect health and therefore never took him to a Vet. This was a mistake on my part as I later discovered that Mike had a bleeding beak. I immediately talked to a vet over the phone and discovered that it was a Herpes Virus that had infected Mike. This proved to be fatal for Mike as he passed out even while I was talking to the Vet over phone. The vet said that Mike might have contracted this virus from another bird or he could have had it right from birth (although I was sure that he was never with another bird).
After about a year or so we got the names of various pet stores and went about looking for another bird. We finally came into contact with "Chris" who had an African grey parrot named Sandy whom he had hand fed and was the only owner of this parrot. Chris had about six parrots and he wanted to give away one of them as he was not being able to take proper care of all the birds. He however pointed out that he would not sell Sandy if he felt that the bird was not comfortable with me. When I first went to meet Sandy and Chris, Sandy stretched out his foot as if wanting to say hello to me and Chris pointed out that this was a sign that he really liked me right from the word go.
It was after several weeks of research that I finally decided on the right kind of cage, correct food and other vitamins for Sandy. Chris was a great help all through as he gave us very important tips on how to take good care of Sandy. We bought Sandy home right after this and made sure that he was comfortable with us. Chris even gave us a list of words that Sandy was familiar with and it was really great when he talked to me.
One and a half years later we were over the phone with Chris again and we brought home a six weeks old Sun Conure whom we name Ricky. We hand fed Ricky three times a day initially which helped in the weaning process. He is now a happy one year old bird and has even learned a few words which he keeps on repeating.
This vast amount of research on parrots has helped me a great deal in knowing more about parrots and has somewhere instilled in me a great love for this magnificent bird. My first hand experience in keeping these parrots as pets has made me realize that parrots can really be great companions if understood better.
This interaction with my Pet Parrots has given me the motivation to write these e-books for the benefit of various parrot lovers all over the world and share my first hand experiences and practical knowledge on these training methods with you.

"Wow, most impressed with your training course, I am a fist time owner of a one year old conure parrot called Bobby. I have only had Bobby a few months and he was quite a handful.
